Just listening to the High Performance podcast with Jake Humphreys, Damian Hughes and Christian Horner, the Team Principal of the Red Bull Formula One racing team and he reminded me of the #1 secret for business success.
You would think that when asked about the number one element that determines success in F1, Christian would respond highlighting the engineering capability, or the financial muscle or indeed the relationship with their engine supplier etc.
His response is as relevant to a leading F1 team, where the difference between success and perceived failure can be measured in fractions of one second, as it is to your organisation, irrespective of size, sector or complexity.
Christian’s response to the question – “It’s all about the People”
He highlighted four aspects of his leadership approach;
- Always surround yourself with the right people
- Empower these people to do what’s required to succeed
- Be clear in setting objectives and your expectations of them
- Remove the obstacles so that they can succeed in their roles
gunnercooke Operating Partners work closely with senior leaders to support them to implement these four aspects and one of the tools that we adopt to provide real insight is The GC Index.
The GC Index enables you to identify the right people for your team and to help them to understand where they are best able to contribute the most and deliver the maximum impact.
The purpose of The GC Index is to help align and harness leaders, teams and organisations in a way that drives productivity and business results.
It provides the insight into how each individual and business entity in an organisation makes an impact relative to their ‘unique’ combination of The GC Index proclivity strengths: Strategist, Game Changer, Play Maker, Implementer, Polisher.
It is then used to understand the current level of performance and alignment in an organisation and identify areas and relationships in the organisation that can be improved to drive better outcomes to take the company to the next level.
By understanding the dynamics across team members, small changes in approach can have long lasting benefits.
If you want to see the power of The GC Index yourself, get in touch and I can arrange for a complimentary personal assessment and feedback session.
