Alexander Werner is Managing Director of gunnercooke Consulting GmbH, combining legal expertise with an entrepreneurial perspective. After more than a decade as a specialist lawyer and law firm founder in Hamburg, he has focused on helping companies structure their transport and logistics operations strategically, with legal certainty and operational efficiency in mind.

A particular focus of his work today is advising international companies, particularly those in the logistics sector, on establishing independent branches and operations in Germany. Clients benefit from an integrated approach encompassing strategic location selection, legally sound structuring of their presence and operational integration into existing value chains.

He also works closely with a full-service firm in Dubai to support the establishment of branches and operations in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Oman. On this basis, Alexander supports international companies in developing their structures in Europe and the Middle East in parallel – from designing the appropriate market and corporate structure and developing contractual and risk frameworks to practical implementation on the ground.

His focus is on advising companies, insurers and logistics providers on developing robust business and supply chain models: from designing international transport and contractual structures and developing risk and claims strategies to implementing digital and organisational improvements. For clients, this means consulting that consistently brings together legal risks, commercial objectives and operational realities – in Germany as well as in the growth markets of the Middle East.

As Managing Director of gunnercooke Consulting, Alexander primarily advises companies that manage complex, international goods flows – and wish to realign their risks, costs and structures in the process.

He supports:

• manufacturing and trading companies with global supply chains,
• logistics service providers, freight forwarders, shipping lines and carriers,
• insurers and underwriters with a strong focus on transport and liability risks.

Typical mandates include the development and implementation of:

• holistic transport and logistics strategies (network, partners, contracts, governance),
• risk management and claims concepts that combine legal enforceability with economic rationality,
• programmes to reduce loss ratios and litigation costs,
• frameworks for customs, import and compliance issues throughout the supply chain.

The focus is always on implementation: Alexander supports clients not only in the design phase, but also in the implementation within structures, systems and daily processes – often in close collaboration with the legal teams at gunnercooke.

Management of complex, international cases in the transport sector, including those involving claims worth millions, and application of this experience to the development of structured risk and claims programmes for companies and insurers.

Development of standard frameworks for transport and logistics contracts (including ADSp and CISG structures), which now serve as the basis for group-wide logistics and procurement strategies.
